Overview
The LM35 series are high accuracy integrated circuit temperature devices whose output voltage is directly proportional to the temperature in degrees Celsius. LM35 devices have the advantage over linear temperature sensors that are calibrated in degrees Kelvin that a large constant voltage does not need to be subtracted from the output to obtain a usable value in degrees Celsius. The LM35 device requires no external calibration or trimming and maintains an accuracy (typical) of ±¼°C at room temperature and ±¾°C over the entire temperature range of -55°C to 150°C. Trimming and calibration at the wafer level ensures low cost. The low output impedance, linear output, and accurate built-in calibration make the LM35 device very easy to connect to readout or control circuitry. The devices can be used with a single power supply or with positive and negative power supplies. The LM35’s current consumption of only 60 µA results in very low self-heating, less than 0.1°C with no airflow. LM35 devices are rated for operation over a temperature range of -55°C to 150°C, LM35C devices are rated for -40°C to 110°C (-10°C for improved accuracy). LM35 series devices are available in sealed TO transistor packages, while LM35C, LM35CA, and LM35D devices are available in plastic TO-92 transistor packages. The LM35D device is available in an 8-lead surface mount, small outline package and a plastic TO-220 package.
